White Earth Investment Initiative is a subsidiary of the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC). Based in Detroit Lakes, MMCDC wanted to channel its rural development services and expertise to a reservation-focused organization with a predominantly Native American board of directors. The goal was to deliver an attainable strategy to combat poverty on the reservation. MMCDC committed to investing $20 million on the White Earth Indian Reservation and met its goal within 10 years.

Community Development BankAs another piece of that strategy, MMCDC acquired ownership of an on-reservation bank, now known as Community Development Bank in Ogema, Minn. (The bank is co-owned by two other nonprofit economic development organizations operating in South Dakota and Wisconsin.)

White Earth Investment Initiative, MMCDC and Community Development Bank work together to improve access to financial education, as well as financial products and services for Native American communities. Our goal is to assist these communities by providing asset-building strategies, opportunities for creating and retaining good jobs, quality affordable housing and alternatives to predatory lending.
