Small Town Retains Cafe with Help of WEII Loan

Peggy Olson used her experience in kitchen and office management to reopen a popular eatery and rename it “The Landing Cafe.” White Earth Investment Initiative provided $179,000 in flexible financing toward the project.

“The Landing” is a term from the logging industry for a clearing that is created when a new contract begins. Loggers come together there to start the day, for lunch or a coffee break, to load trucks, or to visit and rest before going on with their work. The name is a tribute to her family and their logging business.

The Landing philosophy is something I wanted to create within the cafe, where people could come in, relax, grab a bite to eat or something to drink, and visit for a while before going on with their day. We’ve tried to create our own community within these walls. — The Landing Cafe owner Peggy Olson

Family tradition is both honored and carried on at the cafe. The next generation of family works there as part of the team, and the previous generation is warmly remembered in photos decorating its walls and tables.
